Friday shoot-out: layers

The idea of the My Town Shoot Out is to post photos of your community every Friday, and hopefully improve your photography skills. If you would like to see examples of this week's theme from other parts of the world, go here.
Photo shot in Corvallis, western Oregon
Just one photo this week:

This is the strange, peeling red bark of the madrone tree, found mostly in California and Oregon. Such a weird tree!

  1. That's beautiful. We have a stringy bark Eucalyptus trees which have stringy bits of bark that fall off, in various colours, but I've never seen one with such a beautiful coloured bark as yours.

  2. I've never seen such a thing- the wood underneath is very pretty!

  3. Beautiful. We have a river birch that peels off in the fall and winter. I pick up big sheets and dry it and use it for art backgrounds. Great job.

  4. interesting looking bark! the underside of it is so smooth!

  5. Never seen anything quite like it - I was wondering whether it was 'real' or not!
